Ross Stretch on alcohol rehab: In addition to helping you control your breathing, meditation can help you clear your mind and focus on the benefits of detoxing from alcohol. Some small studies have found that meditation techniques, such as yoga, may help treat alcoholism when used with other therapies. However, more research is needed to prove that yoga is an effective complement to treatment. Overall, do whatever you can to make yourself as comfortable as possible. If you’re sweating, place a cold towel on your forehead or on the back of your neck. If you’re cold, bundle up in blankets. Prepare a playlist of your favorite songs or movies to pass the time.

Ross Stretch on Adderall addiction: Adderall abuse in college and high school is common because many believe that taking these study drugs leads to achieving higher grades. The story of amphetamine abuse began in 1887 when Romanian chemist Lazar Edeleanu first synthesized the drug. In the 1930s, American biochemist Gordon Alles discovered the stimulant effects of the drug and created Benzedrine, a decongestant inhaler. In the years following Benzedrine’s creation, doctors also prescribed Benzedrine to treat depression, narcolepsy and nausea caused by pregnancy. During World War II, militaries used amphetamines to keep their troops awake and energized.

In our survey, parents of children who tried medication reported positive changes within a few days of starting amphetamines or methylphenidates. Second-line medications (Strattera) took longer to work, but most parents noticed positive changes within a few weeks. About 10 percent of the parents whose children tried amphetamines and methylphenidates said they didn’t notice any positive changes. According to the parents we surveyed, children on medication had slightly better outcomes than those who weren’t. And while medication was cited as the strategy most helpful in managing ADHD (see ADHD treatments that work), parents were not very satisfied with it overall. In fact, only 52 percent of the parents agreed strongly that if they had to do it over again, they would have their kids take medication, and 44 percent wished there was another way to help their child. (See Parent satisfaction with medication below.)

When to apply SWOT analysis? You can use SWOT analysis in different approaches and for various purposes. For instance: It is a useful ice-breaker and opening exercise in any strategic planning. It makes everyone thinks of the organization simultaneously, the corresponding lines, and a bestowed understanding of the difficulties and benefits. It can surface deep problems and obstacles in a ‘secure’ way because its composition needs a conversation about issues and vulnerabilities. It can be used to address one or more selective difficulties and distinguish the way ahead. It is additionally helpful in general thinking regarding a shift in strategy and ‘where shall we move next?’

Mindfulness meditation and mental health are a hot topic for Ross Stretch: A study conducted at the University of Utah suggested that “mindfulness may be linked to self-regulation throughout the day, and that this may be an important way that mindfulness contributes to better emotional and physical well-being.” According to Maria Camara, PhD, a psychotherapist who is also a qualified mindfulness teacher, meditation helps us connect with our true qualities. Once we’ve accepted who we are and learn to work with our thoughts directly, we reveal a loving capacity that has always been present within us. It’s no wonder that mindfulness increases happiness, enhances clarity and gives peace of mind.

There are many ways to meditate, but they all have the same principle: meditation is being aware. Whether you prefer to do it in a class, alone, using an app, or another way, this ancient wellness practice can be done by absolutely anybody willing to practice consistently. Types of meditation include meditating for mindfulness, spirituality, visualization meditation, using mantras or chants, transcendental meditation, loving kindness meditation and more. But they all have the same goal in common: training the mind to be both calm and aware.
